Agency Mission Statement

The George Bray Neighborhood Center, Inc. is committed to fostering harmonious relationships among persons of different cultural, economic, religious, spiritual, social, and political characteristics by offering programs of service and action as determined by the needs and interests of the people in the neighborhood.

"The Bray Center is the only neighborhood center in Racine which is not owned by the city."

Rather, the Bray Center is an independent non-profit 501(c)3 social service agency. The Bray Center is not controlled by city government, nor does it receive one dime of support from the city to keep its doors open and its roof covered. To be sure, the Bray Center prefers its autonomy, making its own decisions and taking responsibility for its own survival.

Established first in 1961 by neighbors sitting at kitchen tables and on front porches, this non-profit social service organization located in the central city addresses issues of education and economic development, public safety and community activism. Owned by residents of the neighborhoods and governed by a board of directors whose membership combines neighborhood leadership and young adults, the direction of the organization is bold and in touch with the least served in the community.
